France Rally Raid
Anyone interested please email me at meets@sbmcc.co.uk - Please mark it Rally Raid and include a working email address for further contact.

Just so you have an idea of where we might end up here are some details for you.

Bonjour Mes Enfants!
Here are some details for the Rally Raid 2007.

I would suggest that you have a working GPS with a current map of France on it; and that you understand how to use it before you go away. If you have a TomTom GPS it is possible to get a CD with all the Aires on it; these may then be transfered to your GPS because they are already in the right format.
We have also found that a CB radio is a great boon especially when on a Motorway. An ordinary 40 channel Brit one is plenty good enough.
If we are moving on I will have everyone's Mobile number and will send out a text message to everyone as to where the next Meet place will be
We have found that if you are moving on then you need to be on the road by 8.00am at the latest. Driving after 12 Noon is too demanding because of the heat. We also found, from last time, that this gives you enough time to locate a site for the night without everything becoming too stressful.

The proposed dates are as follows ** July thru until the ** August 2007
This is because a lot of us have children of school age and we are tied to the School Summer holidays.

I am not sure what Ferry to recommend: In 2006 we used Norfolk Lines and got a very good service from them. They appear to have put their prices up for 2007 – the b..….ds!

Some ferries that you may care to try are as follows:
EUROTUNNEL

BRITTANY FERRIES

P & O FERRIES

LD LINES

And also these people can be well worth a look FERRY SAVERS

***************

I would suggest that we break the journey on the way down at Lounges sur Mere: This is the site of the Longues sur Mere gun battery - some photos can be seen here
Free camping overlooking the cliffs down into Arromanches les Bains. There is an excellent Tourist Information website for Arromanches les Bains
Longue sur Mere The squiggle almost on the coast shows where the "wild camping" is situated

I would then suggest travelling onto Port Louis Multi Map link
Right in the corner of where the Boulevard de la Compagnie des Indes adjoins the Rue de la Poste. There is a free campsite there but no water or showers. There is a WC that is used for emptying off waste tanks though.
There is an Aire de Service that is situated HERE but there is never a chance of using it. People come down and park up for the Summer and that's it!
There is a Sailing and Diving School for those who feel up to it. This is situated on the Port Quay. I am awaiting prices from them.
Here is another website dedicated to Port Louis
Also, during the time that we should be there! The biggest Celtic Music Festival in the World! It is the Intercelique at Lorient. There is a Ferry that operates from Port Louis to Lorient so no need to drive. Some of the bars are terribly expensive - The Galway Pub for draught Guinness springs to mind - A Kangaroo walks into the Galway carrying an Accordion-"We don't get many accordion playing kangaroos in here" said the owner
"No wonder" said the Kangaroo"You're too ******* expensive!"
SEE HERE

Then for a more “Beach†orientated part of the holiday, it’s onto Erquy website in Northern Brittany. There is a cracking sandy beach for children and a bit of cheek by jowl living for the Mums and Dads!
NOTE: It is essential to be here early in the day, by about, say 12 Noon otherwise you may not get a parking space.
The Aire is just on the junction of Rue des Hirondelles and the road marked “Impasse de Macareuxâ€
- This translates as “dead end of Puffin†I know that the French will eat anything but this is ridiculous!
ERQUY - Aire de Service
Some of you may be aware that Erquy is the scallop capital of France? Here is some info on ERQUY

If this proves to be too stressful then there is CHERRUEIX. There is very little there except for a couple of Bar / restaurants. A small Supermarket, Boulangerie, a Charcuterie (rather good, I thought ) and that's it. Its very, very quiet...
Here is the Website for Cherrueix

From there I would suggest heading back for Longues sur Mere. This is a good place to break the journey on the way home.
Then, if you are going back thru Dunkerque, Calais or Boulogne I would suggest making your last night stop at Berneval-le-Grand, this is just a little North of Dieppe. There is a very good campsite for 12€ per night (in 2006). This leaves you with a 125 mile run to Dunkerque on very good roads

Please Note that these notes are for guidance only
